Box 467
Golden, CO 80402
Re: Keenesburg Mine, C-1981-028, SL3 and RNS, Bond Liability Corrections
Dear Mr, MacDonald:
COLORADO
DIVISION OF
RECLAMATION
MINING
- &-
SAFETY
Bill Owens
Governor
Russell George
Executive Director
Ronald W. Catlany
Division DIfeC[Or
Natural Resource Trustee
In response to your telephone call yesterday, November 7, 2006, the Division reviewed the Bond Release Decision
forms for Permit Renewal No. S (RNS) and Bond Release No. 3 (SL3). During this review we found that the SL3
Bond Release decision form did not reflect the correct reclamation liability value following the bond release. The
Division approved bond release of $130,189.80 with SL3. During the review of SL3 the Division found that
$27,384,00 that had been approved with TR32 bond reduction, had been inadvertently added back into the
Division's liability tracking database. As stated in the SL3 findings document, the Division intended to correct the
$27,384.00 error in conjunction with SL3. Unfortunately, although this correction was noted in the SL3 findings
document, the correction did not carry over into the Division's database.
Please find a corrected Bond Release Decision form for SL3 documenting the corrected reclamation liability for the
Keenesburg Mine upon approval of SL3 as $2,310,380.20.
The SL3 liability correction changes the RNS Permit Renewal Decision forth as well. The Division's reclamation
cost estimate conducted July 27, 2006 found the remaining reclamation liability at the Keenesburg Mine to be
$2,327,437.00. This value reflects an increase of $17,056.80 from the previous liability value of $2,310,380.20.
Please find a corrected Permit Renewal Decision form for RNS documenting the corrected reclamation liability for
the Keenesburg Mine upon approval of RNS as $2,327,437.00.
Please call me ifyou have any questions
Sincerely,
Binns
03)
Protection Specialist
cc: Dan Hernandez, DMG
STATE OF COLORADO
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines
