Box 1298 `~" ~~b-~,W" <br />Glenwood Springs, CO 81601 <br />RE: MID-CONTINENT LIIvIESTONE QUARRY - Extension of Time to Clean Up <br />Hydrocarbon Spills -File No. M-82-121 <br />Dear Ms. Delaney: <br />In response to your letter of May 23, 1996, requesting an extension of time to clean up the spills <br />at the Mid-Continent Quarry, the Division understands that barrels were found tipped over at the <br />Mid-Continent Quarry site and that BLM has restricted access to the site. <br />You have informed us that these barrels have been removed to the Loadout Facility in Carbondale. <br />Under these circumstances, the Division will extend the clean up time required in the Problem <br />Section of our April 30, 1996 inspection report. However, please note that Mid-Continent is under <br />a continuing obligation to clean up the spills at the quarry, and to properly dispose of the barrels <br />at the Loadout Facility, as required by all applicable laws and regulations. Please keep us <br />informed, on at least a monthly basis, about what actions Mid-Continent takes, has taken or intends <br />to take to remedy these problems. <br />Also, no later than 60 days from the date of this letter, you must notify us on the plan for clean <br />up of the spills and disposal of the barrels. At that time, the Division will set a new deadline for <br />compliance with clean up requirements of the spills. <br />Sincerely, <br />Michael B.
