Dan Mathews - 2 - November 2, 1999
3) The DMG notes several gaps for the surface water gaging stations on Rapid Creek and
Cottonwood Creek. The DMG notes SWGS-Ol is missing data for three weeks in August
and the period November, 1996 through March 1997. Monitoring is not required when the
creek is frozen. Therefore, the data gap from November 1996 through March 1997 is
understandable. The only relevant missing data was for three weeks in August when the chart
rewrder malfunctioned because of sediment in the stilling basing. According to notes on the
chart for August 1997, the stilling basin was cleaned on 8/29/97.
Monitoring of SWGS 02, 03 and OS is required bimonthly for the period June through
October. The DMG notes missing data for October and November 1996 for SWGS-02.
October data was located for this site. I believe data missing for November in any year is
understandable.
Missing data was noted for June 1997, October 1996 and November 1996 for SWGS-03.
June and October data was located for this site. Missing November data is understandable.
Missing data was noted for October and November for SWGS-O5. October data and one
week of November data was located for this site.
Enclosed are new data pages SH-25 (SWGS-02), SI-25 (SWGS-03) and SK-11 (SWGS-OS)
which present monitoring data for the referenced monitoring stations for the 1997, 1998 and
1999 water years.
1997 Summarv
Very little data was actually missing for the 1997 AHR. SWGS-O1 had three weeks of missing data
in August 1997 because of a chart recorder malfunction. Some data was missing from all of the
stream gages for November which is understandable.
1998 AHR
1) SWGS-O1 is missing a significant amount of data for the year. The main problem with the
recorder for the year was the float filled with water during May. Evidently it took some time
for this to be discovered and repaired. It appears from notes on the charts the problem was
discovered in May or June and was not repaired until August 30, 1998.
Numerous data is noted as missing for SWGS-02, 03 and O5. New data pages SH-25, SI-25
and SK-11 present the data which was located for the three gaging stations for the 1998
water year. SWGS-02 and 03 are both missing data for July 1998. SWGS-OS is missing data
for one week in June and the two monitoring events in July.
2) Page 2 of the 1998 narrative was revised to convert flow depth measurements to flow in cubic
feet per sewnd.
