~, 111408-2 NOTICE OF PROPOSED DECISION The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety proposes to Ap- prove with Conditions Pennh Revision Application ~ No. 2, submitted by Colowyo Coal Company L.P. for a coal mining permit at the Colowyo Coal Mine (Permit No. C-1981-019). The Colowyo Coal Company has submitted an application for Permit Revision 2 (PR-02) for the Colowyo Mine. The proposed revision is for the extension of mining in the South Taylor Creek (to the south of the current operations) and Lower Wilson Creek (to the west of the current operations). The revision in- cludes 6,050.1 new permit acres, of which 3,826.7 acres are pdvate lands and 2,223.4 acres are tetleral lantls. The mineral ownership inclutles 830.9 acres of private. mineral ilghts and 5,219.2 acres of federal mineml rights. The revision proposes to disturb an ad- d'nional 905.0 acres and affect 914.2 acres with multi-seam sudace and highwall mining methods. The operator is also requesting variances from con- temporaneous reclamation end ap- proximate original contour for the South Taylor mining area. There will be an increase in the reclamation liability associatetl whh this revision. ~lr, ~.. The Colowyo Coal Mine is located in ~ ' ,_ Moffat County, approximately 28 miles south of Craig, Colorado. The surface operation has an anticipated maximum production capacity of 9 million tons per year. Coal interest is Federal, and the surtace to be affected is Federal, state and pdvate lantl. The permit area encompasses approximatey 13,581.15 acres.
