DEPT, OF NA1UN.il P.LSOUkCES
December 19, 1980
Mr. Robert Little
Hydrologist
Colorado Department of Natural Resources
Divison of Mine Lands Reclamation
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Mr. Little:
As I indicated to you in our telephone conversation today,
we have had a communication problem with our consultant that
was doing the design for the sedimentation pond at the truck dump
area at the Snowmasa Coal Company unit train loading facility.
I have attached a copy of their calculations and the preliminary
design for the pond. As you can see, their design would have put
the pond on tlTe steep bluff below tlTe dump facility. The pond would
have served the purpose, but the destruction of vegetation and
damage to the hillside would have been much greater during the
construction of the pond than we feel is acceptable for the area.
I have instructed tiTem to design the pond that would be located
in the area that I have marked with an asterisk. They have indicated
they could not possibly complete this design properly by December 19,
1980, the abatement date whiciT you had specified in your correspondence
with the Snowmass Coal Company. They have, however, indicated that they
can complete the design in final form by December 24, 1980. I
would like to repeat my request to you to extend the abatement date
until December 24, 1980 so that the work can be done properly. We
would appreciate your approval on this extension.
We believe that if the weather cooperates we can complete
the construction on this sedimentation pond and control the water
within the disturbed area within 30 days after your approval of the
final design.
We sincerely appreciate your indulgence in this matter.
Sincerely yours,
James K.
