Long <br />Division oveaor <br />on <br />to <br />this <br />The applicant proposes to continue conducting reclamation operations at the <br />Colorado Coal Mine No. 1. The permit area is located in portions of <br />Section 25, Township 27 South, Range 67 West of the 6th P.M., and is four <br />miles northwest of the town of Walsenburg, Colorado. The above-mentioned <br />tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Walsenburg North. <br />In order for us to approve this renewal application, we are required to affirm <br />that the original finding that "the activities would not affect the continued <br />existence of endangered or threatened species or result in the destruction or <br />adverse modification of their critical habitats as determined under the <br />Endangered Species Act of 1973..." remains valid. We request your review and <br />recommendation pursuant to this finding, as well as your evaluation of the <br />continued validity of the projections and assumptions of the mining and <br />reclamation plan which relate to federally protected wildlife species. <br />Applicable sections of the permit application are enclosed. Please advise us <br />if you require additional information. <br />In order for us to comply with regulatory time frames, we request that <br />comments be submitted to the Division of Minerals and Geology at the above <br />address by 5:00 p.m. on November 30, 1993. If no comments are received by <br />this date, we will proceed on the assumption that your agency has no concerns <br />with or objections to the applicant's proposal. <br />
