o ~
~ o
~, ~~.
37400 HWY 96 EAST
PUEBLO, COLORADO 81006 • (719) 948.3021
•AN EQUAL OPPORiUNnY EI~I.OYEA'
October 30, 1996
RECEIVED
Mr. James Dillie
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Co, 80203
Re: Pathfinder Pit - File No. M-94-113
Southwest Ready-Mix, Inc.
Dear Mr. Dillie:
NOV 0 7 1996
Dlvisi0n of ktmoir~to o',SSVVOgy
This letter is in response to the Board order dated September
4, 1996, asking for a well developed plan to prevent further
migration of the mud slide. As you know, we had a public
hearing on August 29, 1996, at which time the Board didn't
consider the site in violation, however, we would like to
make the following points and observations on this matter.
1.) As of October 1, 1996, the slopes were dry and no
further migration was observed.
2.) As of October 1, 1996, all vegetation and organic matter
originally contained on the slope appears to have been
eliminated due to the slide.
3.) An earthen berm has been constructed and a new grading
plan has been developed and implemented to insure that
most of the stormwater and snow melt will be contained
in the impoundment area, and will be regulated in such a
manner to reduce the amount of water in the slide area.
This should prevent fiurther lubrication and should help
stop the migration of the mud slide.
4.) As of October 1, 1996, it appears that the slide is not
progressing any further downhill to the river.
5.) We will not create any product or overburden stock-
piles that would increase the loading of the slide area.
6.) We don't plan on doing any mechanical support of this
area, to stop the slide. It is our hope that the
measures we have outlined above will help to minimize
the slide and stop the migration.
