Simpwn
Sure Engineer
We have received your letter of February 6, 1996 concerning the above referenced
pits. The status of each pit is given below.
Maxevville Pit, M-78-068
My letter of December 14, 1995 accepted the county's aerial photographic
evidence that there was no increase in ground water exposure between 1978 and 1989.
However, Fred Olme's January 5, 1996 letter which you provided states that the pit was
enlarged during the period 1984-1985, contradicting the county's earlier evidence. The
county must either: submit a statement clearly claiming that ground water exposure has
not increased since January 1, 1981; back fill the pit to the 1981 level; or submit a plan
for augmentation or substitute supply plan which replaces stream depletions caused by
evaporation due to post-1980 ground water exposure. My letter also asked that the
county provide the number of acres of exposed ground water in this pit. This number was
not provided.
Sanderson Pit, M-78-069
The reference to this pit in Mr. Olme's letter does not address the, requirements in
my December 14, 1995 letter. Back filling, a plan for augmentation, or a substitute water
supply plan appears needed. These options were discussed with Mr. Melvin Getz by phone
on February 21, 1996.
