The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice. in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 1 16,
Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on October 3, 1997, an application to revise coal mining
operations at the Lorencito Canyon Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was
submitted by Lorencito Coal Company. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations
initiate from this date of filing.
This revision addresses stipulations #I, #2, #3, #5, and #9 which were attached to the initial permit approval for the
Lorencito Canyon mine. These stipulations address cultural resource surveys, small sedimentation pond stability,
and coal mine waste stability.
The combined surface and underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 3 miles west of
Segundo on Hwy 12. The permit area is further described as follows:
On lands south of the Purgatoire River, lands east of the South Fork of the Purgatoire and Alamosa Canyon, lands
north of Vermejo Park, and lands west of Widow Woman Canyon containing approximately 17,862 acres.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Little Pine Canyon.
A copy of the technical revision application is available for public inspection at the Las Animas County Courthouse,
200 E First St Rm 104, Trinidad, CO 81082, and at the Division office. For additional information or to provide

be submitted within fifteen (I S) days of this letter. If no comments are received by [hen, we will proceed on the
