Lang <br />Division DlreUOr <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice. in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 1 16, <br />Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on October 3, 1997, an application to revise coal mining <br />operations at the Lorencito Canyon Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was <br />submitted by Lorencito Coal Company. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations <br />initiate from this date of filing. <br />This revision addresses stipulations #I, #2, #3, #5, and #9 which were attached to the initial permit approval for the <br />Lorencito Canyon mine. These stipulations address cultural resource surveys, small sedimentation pond stability, <br />and coal mine waste stability. <br />The combined surface and underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 3 miles west of <br />Segundo on Hwy 12. The permit area is further described as follows: <br />On lands south of the Purgatoire River, lands east of the South Fork of the Purgatoire and Alamosa Canyon, lands <br />north of Vermejo Park, and lands west of Widow Woman Canyon containing approximately 17,862 acres. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Little Pine Canyon. <br />A copy of the technical revision application is available for public inspection at the Las Animas County Courthouse, <br />200 E First St Rm 104, Trinidad, CO 81082, and at the Division office. For additional information or to provide <br />written comments, contact the Division of Minerals and Geology, Room 21>, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, <br />Colorado 80203, (303) 866-3567. In order for us to comply with regulatory time frames, we request that comments <br />be submitted within fifteen (I S) days of this letter.
