I am sorry, but the only information I
can offer you is of such a general nature that I doubt it will help you. I will tell you
what I can, though.
Other than the above-referenced permit, I have not worked on any other permits
in this general vicinity and I am unaware of any new permits in this vicinity,
although I occasionally hear of possible new coal mining activity in southern
Routt County which would include this area. It is possible there are new permits
in the area that I am unaware of. 1 do know that the Hayden Gulch Mine stopped
short of mining all available coal reserves when it ceased operations in the mid-
1980s. There is no further mining planned at this reclaimed mine as far as I
know.
As you may know, the Division of Minerals and Geology maintains files on mining
permits and permits for coal and mineral exploration drill holes for the entire
state. New permit applications can be a good indicator of potential mining
activity in an area. In some cases, though, a permit application file is temporarily
held confidential at the request of the permittee and would temporarily be
unavailable to the general public. You may review any of the non-confidential
files by visiting the Division's office.
If you have any questions, please call or fax me at the numbers shown above, or
write to me.
Tom Kaldenbach T~`F"t~'~
Environmental Protection Specialist
