Sediment Disposal Plan
During the bonding period, Sun Coal Company will maintain
sediment storage pond capacity in accordance with the mine permit
application. Since the sedimentation control structures are
located below the disturbed areas, moat of the sediment trapped
in the structure have the characteristics of topsoil. When
sediment structure cleanout is required, Sun Coal Company will
excavate sediment from the structure and grade the material in
and adjacent to the structure and when necessary revegetate the
excavated material using the seed mix designated Sn the permit.
If deemed appropriate or as field conditions dictate, Sun Coal
Company will dispose sediment in two separate designated sediment
disposal areas. Area 1 (Yampa River) is located immediately east
of Culvert #1 between the culvert invert and the crusher. The
second area is located adjacent to the reclaimed mined area, on a
small bench located in the SE 1/4, of the SE1/4, Section 23,
Township 6 North, Range 8T West. Sediment will be removed from
the traps after the area has had an opportunity to dry out and
during the time when minimal impacts to vegetation will occur.
