Should this <br />pond be protected? Are there any wetlands between the pond and the <br />proposed elope? If so, an erosion control plan should be required. <br />- The reclamation plan has little detail. It says that grass seed <br />will be drilled at a rate of 13 lbs./acre, at a coat of $1.'70 per <br />pound. What species are in the mix? They can't be natives at that <br />price. A seed drill cannot be used on the 1:1 fill elope. It is too <br />steep for equipment to seed along elope contours. Seed must be either <br />broadcast mechanically and raked into the top 1/4 inch of s~~il or, <br />applied hydraulically. <br />- Thia 1:1 elope should be cut back to a more stable 2:1. ;according <br />to Jefferson County regulations the elope of all permanent :Fills <br />cannot be greater than 2:1 unless it can be proven that it :is stable, <br />and will not undergo accelerated erosion. <br />- No mention was made of mulching the newly seeded areas. :Che fill <br />elope is so steep that topsoil will not stay in place, eo standard <br />mulching practices are out of the question. We recommend using either <br />one of the new bonded fiber matrix products or erosion cont:^ol <br />blanket. The hydro mulches with the Plantago based tackifier provide <br />short-term protection for 2-3 months and this is not enough time to <br />establish grass. <br />-Also mentioned, was the planting of 2,000 Juniper and Mtn. Mahogany. <br />These will be a welcome supplement to grassed elopes, but eliould not <br />be used by themselves to stabilize elopes. <br />CONSERVATION -DEVELOPMENT -SELF-GOVERNMENT <br />
