species be forbs and that one be a shrub species. Thus, at
C this point, the site would not pass final bond release
species diversity requirements even though the site has a
very diverse and stable reclaimed community.
Table 3 presents data from a reclaimed area that was
below the target of 638 cover. Five transects (labeled A
through E) were placed east of the county road bissecting
the Northern No. 1 mine site. Ten species contributed an
average cover of 51.68. This site was seeded differently
from the other areas and, although it is in relatively good
shape, it lacks the broadleaved forb and grass species (such
as Leymus cinereus, Astragalus cicer, and Phalaroides
arundicea) which contribute to cover totals elsewhere.
Because its cover was so low, it was excluded from the final
sample set and will not be included as part of the Phase II
bond release request.
SAIiPLE ADEQUACY CAI.CUI.ATIONS
Calculations are included in the Table 5. The sample
adequacy formula that was used is the same as that on page
15 of the Division's Vegetation Guidelines. The number of
samples collected (17) was greater than the calculated
sample adequacy number (7.2), indicating that the disturbed
area was sampled beyond adequacy at the 908 statistical
level.
6
