-23-
XIV. Operations Description Rules 2.05.2, 2.05.3(1), 2.05.3(2), 4.01
The mine is a truck and shovel operation which progresses to the north, mining
through three adjacent but unconnected pits on Federal and private land. The
operation removes one seam of coal averaging 40 feet in thickness.
The mining sequence employed ensures that vegetation and topsoil are first
removed from the area to be mined. The overburden is shot and removed from
the pit, and trucked to the previous pit area for backfilling. The coal is
then removed from the pit and trucked to the loadout facility south of Walden,
Colorado, where it is shipped to consumers via railroad.
Since permit issuance, Kerr Coal has greatly reduced the scope of operations
at the Marr Strip. An accurate timetable for mining and reclamation
activities at the mine has not been submitted to the Division, therefore, the
following stipulation is necessary:
Stipulation No. R2
KERR COAL COMPANY MUST SUBMIT ALL APPLICABLE MAPS, TABLES, AND TEXT
WHICH DESCRIBE THE TIMING AND PROBABLE SEQUENCE OF MINING OPERATIONS
AND RECLAMATION ACTIVITIES AS CURRENTLY PROJECTED DURING THE
FORTHCOMING PERMIT TERM. THIS INFORMATION MUST BE FULLY SUBMITTED
WITHIN 90 DAYS OF PERMIT RENEWAL.
With the acceptance of the above stipulation, the operation is in compliance
with the requirements of this section.
