Long
Division Dueclor
RE: Deserado Mine (C-81-018) Minor Revision No. 81. Reagent Tank Storage Area
Dear Mr. Shrestha:
I have reviewed the dimensions of the reagent tank storage structure that has been proposed
at the Deserado Mine facilities area. Your letter dated April 22, 1993 states that two tanks
will be stored at this location and this structure shall provide total containment.
As per your letter the structure will need to be able to hold a total of 11500 gallons.
According to our calculations only 10,996 gallons could be contained in the designed
structure. This also does not allow for any freeboard within the structure. Western Fuel-
Utah is advised to review the Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) plan
approved by Colorado Department of Health to verify if freeboard needs to be designed
into this structure. Some freeboard would be advised, since if the containment structure
should ever need to hold the designed volume, some amount of freeboard would assure
spillage is tninimized.
Dimensions the Division used to calculate the volumes are:
Containment needed = 7500 gal. + 4000 gal. = 11500 gal.
Interior structure dimensions = 30 ft. x 14 ft. x 3.5 ft. =1470 cu.ft. = 10,996 gal.
Western Fuels-Utah needs to size this containment adequately to accommodate the total
volume of the tanks stored within. If you have any questions, please call.
Sincerely,
Janei s '
Recl atton pecialist
STATE OF COLORADO
M:\coal\jhb\ c81018\mr8l.ar
