M-90-093
Steve Shuey
Dear Steve,
We are requesting a technical revision to the above referenced
permit to allow a salvage yard operation to become the end use for
2.066 acres of the gravel pit site. In addition, we propose to
mine the site differently from the original submittal and to
reclaim the site with a more appropriate seed mix.
The salvage yard is currently permitted within ±500 yards of the
gravel pit to the north. In the interests of decreasing the amount
of vegetation and other disturbance to the two operations and for
efficiency, we propose combining operations at the same site. The
site is contained in the SE4, SE; of Section 14, T33N, R10W, NMPM,
La Plata County, Colorado.
As the accompanying graphics indicate, the site is proposed to be
mined to an ultimate depth of up to 30 feet, for a portion of the
site, at this time. The mining plan will change and proceed in
three phases, with reclamation proceeding subsequent to excavation.
A highwall excavation will be created and backfilled with
overburden and topped with topsoil. The directions of mining and
reclamation in each phase are indicated. The salvage yard area
will be left as bare sub-soil, to be graveled as needed For the
yard's operation. Compatible with the mountain top site, we will
be leaving a bermed outer edge of overburden and topsoil where the
mining area opens out onto the slope to create a screening effect
from neighboring properties. All finished slopes of the berm and
others will be finished at 3:1. The access road to the site will
essentially stay the same. However, the portion within the mine
permit area that accesses the salvage yard will be permanent.
Topsoil stockpiles and direction of distribution are shown.
Drainage will be detained on site in a small settling pond before
exiting the site by way of the access road.
We propose the following seed mix at a rate of 65 lbs PLS/acre to
reclaim as rangeland the areas outside the access road into the
salvage yard and the salvage yard itself:
20~ Western Wheatgrass (32 lbs PLS)
d.b.a.
