(4) Tailings Cyanide Detoxification:
BMG shall develop and submit a plan for cyanide detoxification~of the
entire slurry and liquid contents of the tailings impoundment as soon as
possible for review and approval by the Division. This plan shall be
submitted as a technical revision application. This application shall
include a schedule for implementation. Following approval of this
technical revision, BMG shall implement the treatment method i
accordance with the plan. Appropriate frequency and distribution of
monitoring of the tailings and plant circuit shall be proposed within the
application and subsequently conducted to verify the progress nd success
of the remedial treatment. Monitoring results, covered by an ppropriate
cover letter report shall be submitted to the Division weekly wring the
detoxification program.
BMG will be permitted to operate the processing plant, includi g the
introduction of unprocessed ore, until the projected tailings uality has
been achieved. At that point in time BMG will cease operation of the
plant pending approval to recommence operation by the Division:
Monitoring of cyanide levels within the tailings slurry and li uid shall
continue to verify the anticipated decay of cyanide levels following the
cessation of the detoxification program, until cessation is ap roved by
the Division.
The introduction of chemical compounds into the processing circuit to
affect an immediate remedy of the tailings cyanide problem could
potentially create additional problems by amending the chemical
constituency of the tailings. The Division cautions BMG that it will be
held responsible for any unanticipated results of its remedial factions.

MLRB Amendment: The Division shall report tailings treatment p ogress
to the Board during their May 27-26 and June 24-25, 1992 eetings.
Tailings CYTOX detoxification approved under Technical Re ision
TR-004 shall cease June 24, 1992.
Deadlines: Submit progress reports to the Division by May 25 afid
June 22, 1992.
Division will report status to Board May 27 and Jun 24, 1992.
Cessation of CYTOX treatment no later than June 24, 1442.
Duration: Board amended final CYTOX treatment deadline is June 24, 1992.
