Marathon Gold Corporation is engaged in an exploration
and research program to determine the feasibility of mining
and processing large tonnage - low grade gold deposits located
in Moffat County, Colorado. A mining permit was sought by and
granted to Marathon in order that the Company be permitted to
conduct pilot plant and laboratory tests to obtain valid assay
and metallurgical data on gold . Marathon desires to make a
technical revision to its regular ( 112 ) permit to allow for
the use and testing of cyanide solutions in gold assay and recovery
research.
The Company has experimented with several different
assay techniques but the most consistent and successful results
have been obtained by cyaniding 5 pound to 100 pound samples
under controlled laboratory conditions . The tests are run on
a batch basis in a totally enclosed , environmentally secure
laboratory. The construction of the laboratory utilizes bermed
concrete of a height sufficient to contain the total volume
of all fluids stored in the building. Should a catastrophic
event occur , no fluids or hazardous materials could exit the
laboratory.
The laboratory has no continuous drainage system.
The seamless, concrete floor is sloped to centralized sumps .
All sumps are discharged to the cyanide destruction tank, and
solutions chlorinated and pH adjusted prior to release.
An average of 36 cyanide tests per week are being
conducted. Each test uses approximately 125 to 180 grams of
sodium cyanide. Weekly cyanide consumption is about 7200 grams,
or roughly 16 pounds. Approximately 4 , 000 pounds of ore samples
are analyzed per week.
2
