_,
• Future Efforts
The emergency construction of the dikes and their limited capacity
will require a high degree of maintenance. The dikes and any other
contaminated soil between the dikes will, therefore, be removed
before winter (weather permitting). This material will be placed
either in an area of the spoil or on a relatively flat area for
landfarming, per the Commissions' regulations, depending upon the
need for land treatment. Prior to landfarming, composite soil
samples will be tested for contamination. If the oil and grease
level is below 10,000 ppm, as measured by EPA Method-Modified 8015,
the material will be hauled to the spoils for eventual backfilling
in the pit area. Care will be taken to dispose of this material
above ground water.
If the oil and grease levels are above 10,000 ppm, the landfarm
will be managed in accordance with accepted practices. Periodic
samples will be taken to ascertain contamination levels. Once the
soil tests indicate levels below 10,000 ppm, PWCC will dispose of
the material in the pit area.
Areas within the drainage area that were disturbed by remediation
activities will be reclaimed, if no further disturbance is planned.
3
