1
' Battle Mountain Rcaourca, Inc.
I12 Permit ModiFcation
A laboratory testing program to geochemically ch~lracterize the waste
' rock from the San Luis Project was outlined in the app#oved permit. The
results from the testing program indicate that no acid production or leaching
of degradational quantities of any metals or other constituents from the waste
rock is expected to occur.
win discussion of the waste rock geocherftistry is condensed
r f m Section D.3.3.2 of the approved permr The wash rock tested for the
approved permlt mclud camp es rom each type of wasted rack. A list of the
' sample types and descriptions of the testing conducted v#hich pertain to the
backfill material aze given in Table D.3.3-1, Test resr~lts aze included in
' Appendix A of this submittal.
Battle Mountain geologists familiaz with the geologpc chazacteristics of
' the San Luis Project identified four separate and distin t waste rock types
present on site. Throe of the four types of waste rock sa>Inpled will occur in
' the pit backfill material. The fourth waste type, muds~ne and grcen clay
associated with faulting, will not occur in the backfill ma rial and will not be
discussed further in this document. The geologists selected core to be used
in the geochemical testing program b on criteria estab shed by the Project
Geoc emi a cntena lnc u ed selecting a sample at was considered
resentative of the general rock type being tested, sel ling a sample that
' might represent a worst case a roc -tes , and'ensuring that
a sufficient amount of material was available in a core acted to complete
the testing. Battle Mountain geologisu fast reviewed th drill logs for drill
holes which had been cored. They then selected potential grill holes with logs
which met the criteria. The core from the selected hobs was examined to
verify the logs. On ~ ~ ed that the core
met the criteria, the core was shipped to the Project F.n i is laborato for
' development of a com osite sample.
Laboratory personnel, in consultation with the ist,
selected i ti r event samples for each of a rock types. The
two different samples were selected in an attempt to el bo ex
' 'overall conditions and expec wor a case of the
an a Conglomerate and the pm gneiss the sam les ere lax used
orT'_co or differences, m rcating either a compo ition change or
ay 9, 1994 D_7 SK1C rtorect no
