~..:a.:~-- -
falcons. Rehabilitation of the waste pile areas will improve the overall habitat for peregrine
falcon.
4. Neither Mountain lion nor ringtail cat are listed as an existing species in the current
application. It should be noted that mountain lion and ringtail cat are common to the project
area. Both species rely on the rocky terrain for foraging and escape.
5. The project area in game management unit 31 (north of the Colorado River) has
been determined to be "sever winter range" for mule deer and is now Gassified as "critical
habitat" for mule deer by the Division of Wildlife. Rehabilitation of waste pile areas by
including woody plant species will improve wintering habitat for mule deer.
6. The can-ent application states that sage grouse inhabit the project area. It should be
noted that sage grouse have never been documented in this project area. Sage grouse occur
in game management unit 31 at higher elevations.
7. It should be noted that the willow/tamarisk vegetation along the Colorado River are
"potential habitat" for the willow flycatcher. It should be noted that the bald eagle is a winter
migrant along the Colorado River, within the project area.
The Division of Wildlife appreciates the opportunity to comment on projects such as this one.
Please contact me or Jim Miller at 970-248-7175rf you have any questions pertaining to the
above comments.
Sincerely,
~~~
Joseph W.
