i Introduction <br />' As requested, Western Colorado Testing, Inc. (WCT), has observed <br />and evaluated the geology for the Norwood Pit, United Companies, <br />Inc. The pit is located 1 1/2 miles north of U.S. Highway 145 on <br />' County Road 44, approximately 1.5 miles east of Norwood, <br />Colorado. The pit is currently being mined under Phase I, as per <br />' permit number M-88-037. <br />' The proposed expansion of mining operations is located on the <br />west by County Road 44 and on the east by United States SLM land. <br />' To the north the property is bounded by United States BLM land <br />and on the south by land owned by Victor T. Roushar, San Miguel <br />' County, and Skelton, Inc. (from west to east). <br />The parcel consists of 84.3 t acres of which 76.1 ± acres is to <br />' be mined. Under the current permit, Phase I, includes 14.1 t <br />' acres of which 9.64 acres has been disturbed. The mining area is <br />planned to be mined in phases from Phase I in the southwest <br />corner, counter clockwise to Phase V in the northwest corner. <br />' Each phase and its individual mined area is as follows: <br />1 Phase II 14.2 acres <br />Phase III 15.9 acres <br />' Phase IV 15.9 acres <br />Phase V 16.6 acres <br />' The site presently includes a single family residence, barn and a <br />planned stockwater pond. The location of these items are in the <br />' proposed Phase V area. Under current mining production these <br />items will not be affected by the gravel removal for a time <br />' period of 20 to 25 years. <br />' The undisturbed acreage to the east of current, Phase I, <br />Production, including proposed Phase II and southern Phase III <br />' 1 <br />
