Eoxs8 <br />Carbondale, CO 31623 <br />Dear Mr. Harris: <br />We have received an Amendment to your existing plan of operations for a <br />limestone quarry located on public lands in T.5S., R.89A., Section 36: SES{. <br />Your Amendment. is apprcved subject to the following stipulations: <br />1. The stored topsoil pile will be graded to a slope of approximately 4:1 to <br />prevent erosion and ro facilitate seeding and establishment of grasses. <br />7~he topsoil pile will be seeded and a crest cover shall be established to <br />help prevent erosion and retention of soil nurrienis. The seed mixture <br />will be *.he samz as submitted in thz plan for final reclamation. <br />.. fh? mined benches will he lef*. with either an inslope or a berm to retain <br />runoff and to prevent erosion. <br />3. 'fhe mined benches will be reveaer,ated by establishing separate small <br />planting areas with the stored copscil and other fill material. The <br />plan*.inq areas will have a minimum of 10 cubic yards of topsoil {including <br />fill material) and a depth of at least 3 feet. The planting sites should <br />be lccated ov?r cracks or crevices within the bench floor to collect <br />moisture and provide space for tree roots. Blasting to create cracks or <br />small hcles is accep*.abl?. The sides of the planting area will be lined <br />with waste rock and fines. Additional fines can be used between planting <br />areas *.o create small berms for diversion and retention of runoff water for <br />a•railability to wildlife. The area will be seeded with the mixture <br />submitted in the plan amendment using certified seed. At least 10 spruce ~ <br />or fir seedlings will be planted within each area instead of the proposed <br />shrubs. A mulch free of weeds will be used to cover each planting area. A <br />planting ar?a wil-Ybe established for every 1,000 square feet of bench. <br />The actual amount of plantings will depend upon the amount of stored <br />topsoil and fill material available and will have to be dztermined at the <br />time reclamation begins. <br />~ i~~ <br />~\~; <br />~~~ <br />ea ~~%~ <br />
