In response, CNHP has searched it's Biological and
Conservation Datasystem for natural heritage resources (occurrences of significant natural
communities and rare, threatened or endangered plants and animals) documented from:
T12S R90W Section 31
T13S R90W Sections 1-12, 17
T12S R91 W Sections 34-36
T13S R91W Sections 1-3, 11-13
Our records indicate the occurrence of two rare species within the Somerset Mine area.
1) Penstemon mensarum (Grand Mesa Penstemon) occurs within the T13S R90W
section 2. The CNHP considers this plant to be very rare meaning there are less
than 20 populations or occurrences globally. All of these occurrences are within
Colorado. This species is a candidate for federal endangered species listing status.
Per our conversation today, this population will likely not be impacted by the
activities currently proposed. However, it is important that this population be
flagged for consideration of additional, future actions. Since the population has not
been verified since 1977, it is recommended that the extent and vigor of the
population be documented in the near future. [f CNHP can be of assistance with this
survey, please contact us.
A Consen~ation Data Center For Colorado
a, u. Ld r,,,,
