The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33,
Section 118, Pazagraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on June 3, 2005, an application to renew an
existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Seneca II-W Mine was considered complete for the
purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining
Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate from this date of filing.
Seneca Coal Company proposes to continue surface coal mining and/or reclamation operations on land
located approximately 9 miles south of Hayden, Colorado. The permit azea is further described as follows:
TSN, R88W; All of Section 15; Portions of Sections 9, 1Q 11, 14, 16, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 34, and 35
T6N, R88W; Portions of Sections 14, 23 and 24
T6N, R87W; Portions of Sections 17, 18, 19
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle maps of Hayden Gulch,
Hayden, Dunckley, Mt. Harris.
This permit renewal application would allow for renewal of Permit C-1982-057 for a new five yeaz permit
term, which would extend to December 31, 2010. The application does not propose any expansion of
approved permit boundaries or surface disturbance acreage, nor does it propose any changes to approved
mining or reclamation plans.
Your comments and concerns relating to the adequacy of fish and wildlife resources information, the fish
and wildlife plan, and the reclamation plan as it relates to fish and wildlife considerations, including
potential impacts to threatened or endangered species, are requested. If wildlife habitat is the proposed
postmining land use, we request your evaluation of proposed woody plant stocking levels, planting
arrangements, and methods for mitigation of potential adverse impacts.
A copy of the renewal application, as well as the complete set of currently approved permit application
documents, is available for public inspection at the Hayden Public Library, 201 E. Jefferson, Hayden, CO
