gravel filter dam before being released to Middle Creek. The drainage
system is shown on Map 4a, Energy Mine No. 3, Hydrology.
The 6.3 acre area contains the outslope of the disturbed area at the
south end of Energy Mine No. 3. Due to topographic constraints, this
small area cannot be diverted into the Energy Mine No. 3 Detention Basin.
Adjacent to the disturbed area is the floodplain of Middle Creek. Be-
cause the area is in a state of reclamation and will not be disturbed in
the future, alternative sediment control measures are proposed. The out-
slope area will be topsoiled and seeded with furrows placed on contour to
prevent soil loss. Straw dikes will be utilized in the adjacent drainage
if necessary to prevent additional contribution of suspended solids to
Middle Creek.
The 16.8 acre area is upslope from the Homestead Irrigation Ditch.
This area will be reclaimed to the post-mining land use of pastureland.
Reclamation will include regrading, topsoiling and seeding of the dis-
turbed area. Sediment control measures will be implemented in accordance
with Rule 4.05.5 in the disturbed area, including seeding with quick-
growing grass species and installing straw dikes in established drainage
channels upslope from the irrigation ditch. These sediment control mea-
sures will be maintained as necessary to prevent erosion and soil loss in
the reclaimed area. The irrigation ditch will effectively divert the
runoff trom the small disturbed area away trom the Mine No. 3 Detention
Basin.
-4-
