999
ECEIVED
DEC 2 41984
MARATHON GOLD CORPORAT .,
December 20 , 1984
Mr. David C. Shelton, Director
Department of Natural Resources
Mined Land Reclamation Division
423 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Mr. Shelton:
On November 30, 1984 , the Mined Land Reclamation Division
performed its first inspection of Marathon Gold Corporation ' s
Joker Mine and Pilot Plant, file no . 83-52 . The inspection
was performed by Mr. Phillip C. Saletta and Mr. Peter V. O'Conner.
We are an exploration stage company engaged in research and
testing. Prior to the inspection, we had submitted to the Division
a technical revision which discussed the Company' s use and testing
of cyanide solutions in gold assay and recovery research .
A regular ( 112 ) permit was sought by and granted to
Marathon in order that we could construct and operate a pilot
gravity concentration plant and a laboratory. We are exploring
for gold placers which as you may be aware are extremely difficult
to "prove up" with a high level of confidence . In order to
establish reserves, it is necessary for us to run bulk samples
under simulated production conditions in our pilot gravity concen-
tration plant. As stated in our approved permit , the pilot
plant does not use cyanide , froth flotation or any hazardous
chemicals.
In their inspection report, Messers. Saletta and O'Conner
make several comments and allegations which need to be clarified
and corrected so that the Mined Land Reclamation Board and yourself
have a proper understanding of the true scope of our operation.
We answer their allegations paragraph by paragraph.
OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:
11 . While we have disturbed more than 11 acres , the
additional disturbance area is not the result of mining operations
but the result of construction of a topsoil storage area, bulk
sample ore pad and a building excavation waste rock pile . To
date , there has been only limited bulk sample mining activity
on site.
50 Spruce Street, Suite 400, Craig, Colorado 81625/303-824-8294
