The comments were enumerated in a memo dated December 26, 2000 from Allen
Sorenson to Gregg Squire. The memo was an attacturtent to a letter to you dated January 11,
2001 from Gregg Squire. The letter itself contained additional comments on the proposed mine
plan. Most of the comments relate to the storm water management plans and the reclamation of
the haul road.
Our responses to the comments in the above named documents follow.
December 26, 2000 Memo from Allen Sorenson to Gregg Squire
1. State Engineer's Jurisdiction: The Dam Safety Engineer for Division 5, George Wear
(970) 945-5665, was contacted regarding [his issue. With minor modifications to the
spilhvay design and the dam height, the five sediment control dams will fall under the
jurisdiction of the State Engineer and be permitted as "Erosion Control Dants". Prior to
construction, we will prepare the required form (DWR I/91) for each of the live dams for
submittal to the State Engineer Copies of the completed forms will then be provided to
the DMG for its files.
Note that the Erosion Control Dam form includes construction specifications for the
proposed dams. Tlie construction specifications we eventually develop will tier off these
requirements.
2. Erosion Control Mats: Rpprap is the preferred method for protecting the channels,
embankments and spillways, and Knight Piesold recommends that riprap be used. If
Centex decides to use erosion control mats in place of riprap, Knight Piesold can assist
Centex in developing the appropriate technical infornration to submit a Technical
Revision to the permit. Centex also may wish to consider articulated concrete blocks for
MEMBER OF
' AMERICAN CONSULTING
ENGINEERS COUNCIL
