c
METHOLDOLOGY
1. During the early spring and during the mid summer growing season on an annual basis
Otero County employees will inspect the Hancock Pit to determine azeas that require
weed control action.
2. Areas infested with noxious weeds will be identified and Otero County will consult
with chemical suppliers or qualified contractors to determine chemicals to be used and
method of application. The noxious weeds will be removed and/or chemically treated
by an individual knowledgeable in these matters.
3. The County will inform DBMS of weed control activities on an annual basis as part of
the permit annual report function and requirements.
4. Otero County envisions this as an annual on going process, during each spring to
control noxious weeds before they propagate during the growing season.
5. Specific management techniques will be developed, implemented and documented
using a practical mix of cultural, mechanical, biological and chemical controls as
deemed both effective and cost effective.
6. The existing large tamarisk plants will be cut off about 2 inches above the ground and
the stumps will be painted with 12 ounces of arsenal per gallon of water with .25%
surfactant or equivalent chemicals. The smaller plants (5 foot or less in height) will be
sprayed with Alligaze Imaza pyr 2.SL at 1% (1 gallon Imasiperl100 gallons of
solution) with .25 Nonionic Surfactant (1 quart/100 gallons) or equivalent chemicals
during mid summer. This process will be repeated yeaz until the problem is corrected.
7. If the tamarisk problem continues after several years of treatment, Otero County will
take other reasonable steps necessary to eliminate these problems.
