The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33,
Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on January 19, 2007, an application to renew an
existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Bear Mine was considered complete for the purposes of
filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation Act and the
Rules initiate from this date of filing.
Beaz Coal Company, Inc. proposes to continue undergound coal mining and/or reclamation operations on land
located approximately 0 miles East of Somerset, Colorado. The permit area is further described as follows:
Portions of Sections 8, 9, and 15; all of Section 16; portions of Sections 17, 18, 20, and 21 Township 13 South,
Range 90 West of the 6th P.M.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Somerset.
Bear Coal Company, Inc proposes to continue reclamation operations on land located near the town of Somerset,
Colorado. The Bear No. 3 mine is an underground coal mine that is in permanent cessation. The permit renewal is
for another five yeaz term.
A copy of the renewal application is available for public inspection at the Gunnison County Clerk and Recorder,
200 E. Virginia, Gunnison, CO 81230, and at the Division office. For additional information, to provide written
comments, or request an informal conference, contact the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, Room 215,
