February 13, 1998
Mr. Kent Gorham
Senior Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Minerals and Geology
215 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver. Colorado 80203-2273
RE: Technical Revision O2 -Response to Stipulations 11 for
Lorencito Canyon Mine (Permit C-96-084)
Dear Mr. Gorham:
~-i ~u~unnii~ m
RECEIVEp
FEB ~ 7 1998
Division of Minerals & Geology
Lorencito Coal Company, LLC (LCC) hereby requests approval of Technical Revision 02 to the
above referenced permit to respond to the shrub stipulation placed on the permit during the approval
process. Attached is a Technical Revision Form and proposed newspaper notice for your approval.
The following paragraphs provide the stipulation and the appropriate information for our response.
Stipulation # 11
Lorencito Coal Company will submit a Technical Revision to the Permit by February 15, 1998 to
incorporate a plan to establish shrubs on the reclaimed portions of the surface mine. This plan will
address those issues as defined by the Division of Wildlife, as outlined in their adequacy letters
and/or adequacy questions 111, 190, and 191 of the initial Division adequacy review, LLC
responses, or any subsequent review as documented.
Response
LCC has developed a shrub reclamation plan for the surface mine area which establishes shrub plots
within the reclaimed grassland community. These plots range in size from 1/4 acre to six acres and
are proposed for north and east facing slopes to maximize potential success. Establishment methods
range from concentrated shrub seeding to transplant of shrubs from areas to be disturbed. Species
are consistent with the native community and those that will adapt to disturbed area conditions. The
plots are placed to provide corridors for wildlife movement. The attached revised pages 2.05-59a,
2A5-60, 2.05-65, 2.05-66b, 2.05-66c, 2.05-66d, 2.05-73, 2.05-73a, 2.05-74, and 2.05-75 of the
permit dotarment provide a description of the proposed plan to establish shrubs in the surface mine
area.
5231 South Quebec Sueet • Greenwood Village.
