Long <br />Division Dbeaor <br />Aest Elk Mine; File No. C-80-007 <br />Mountain Coal Company (MCC) has submitted an application for a <br />technical revision which proposes to construct a gravel drain to <br />direct water from a spring which caused a small slump west of <br />sediment ditch and berm (D2R-2). The southwest portion of the <br />refuse pile will be extended over this area to act as a buttress. <br />MCC has provided a stability analyses for the slump area before and <br />after the repair. <br />I would appreciate your comments regarding the stability analyses <br />and the design of the gravel drain. Information on the lower <br />refuse pile is contained in Exhibit 51 in Volume 10 of MCC permit. <br />I would be grateful if you would return your comments to me by <br />November 5, 1993. I apologize for the short review time, but I am <br />pressed for time as MCC needs to complete this work as soon as <br />possible and I am leaving on vacation. <br />Please let me know if you have any questions or require additional <br />information. <br />cc: David Berry <br />
