From Durango Herald, August 2002 <br />Ernestine Martinez <br />A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic <br />Church in Pagosa Springs for Ernestine Martinez, Cortez resident, who died <br />Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez. She was 75. <br />The Rev. John Bowe of Pagosa Springs will officiate. Interment will be at the <br />Frances Cemetery in Arboles. A prayer vigil has been scheduled at 7 p.m. today <br />at the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cortez. <br />Mrs. Martinez (Gurule) was born Feb. 20, 1927, in Santa Fe, N.M. She was a <br />grade-school teacher before her children were born, and she became a cook <br />after the children grew up. She cooked in local restaurants including one her <br />daughter owned. She enjoyed sewing and reading. <br />She was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Tina Marie Duran and Ricky <br />Herrera. <br />She is survived by her husband, John R. Martinez of Cortez; three daughters, <br />Barbara Ramirez of Houston, Lisa Montoya of Pagosa Springs and Margie <br />Martinez of Cortez; a son, Greg Martinez of Cortez; two brothers, Arthur Gurule <br />of Durango and Michael Gurule of Redlands, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and five <br />great-grandchildren. <br />
