Mines 1, 2, and Eckman Park
Dear Mr. Gorham:
This letter is to confirm to the Division that the required implementation of the referenced
plan for abatement of NOV # C-93-080 was initiated at 0915 hours on August 11.
Implementation steps taken at that time were to maintain the two orifices of the third row
which are presently open, and to open the sluice-gate to further dewater Pond A .
Dewatering will occur to a point which will allow the removal of the two remaining plugs
in the third row of riser orifices along with any further maintenance of the two orifices
currently unplugged. A full suite NPDES sample was collected immediately after opening
the sluice-gate, and there were no visual indications of a possible water quality concern.
The dewatering activity associated with the sluicegate will be monitored with normal
sampling to allow for representative water quality data to be obtained. Once the plugs
have been removed, CYCC will close the sluice-gate and will not utilize the gate in the
future unless required. Removal of additional riser orifice plugs should address the issues
associated with the referenced NOV. Implementation of the revised plan has commenced
within the timeframes stipulated by the referenced NOV.
Should you have any questions or comments, please contact me at your convenience.
Sincerely,
~~~%~~`~
Marcus A.
