In paztiailaz, they said there was concern about the inclusion of crested and intermediate wheat
grasses, and the exclusion of Indian rice grass.
We have consulted with Daryl E. Mergers, PhD, of Mergers Ecological Delineations. Ae has advised us
that the crested wheat will probably be a more aggressive grass in the earty years, but its frequency will
naturally decline within ten years, as based on his observations at a Wyoming coal mine reclamation site.
The intermediate wheat grass was seeded on our Newlin Creek reclamation which has been granted Phase
III release. This grass has caused no problems on this reclamation and certainly did not result in denial of
Phase III release.
Since the Energy reclamation goal is for grazing and since we are in the cattle business, we believe we are
qualified to state that the Indian rice grass is unimportant for cattle grazing. Also, we wish to avoid any
additional woody stems such as salt bush and would like to maximize the cleared areas as afforded by the
Energy reclamation.
Sincerely,
W.D.
