Matthew S. Hayes
June 28, 1989
Page 7
Monitoring Well
WECC proposes to drill one additional hydrology monitoring well at the
location shown on the attached map entitled "Drilling Program - 1989,
Location & Access". The purpose of this drill hole will be to obtain coal
quality information and hydrology information. The drill hole will be
completed as a hydrology monitoring well. The hole will be located in
Section 29, Township 13 Sou[h, Range 90 West, 6th PM in the N 1/2, NE
1/4. The drill hole site will be within the existing permit boundary. The
site will be accessed by existing roads from the Dry Fork of Minnesota
Creek. The drill site is located on U.S. Forest Service surface lands. The
site is within the boundary of Federal Coal Lease C-1362.
A small drill pad will be constructed adjacent to the road. Drilling will
be done during 1989 if possible, depending on the availability of a rig and
crew. Drilling is expected to take from 2 to 4 weeks. Reclamation of the
drill pad will befin upon completion of drilling. Reclamation is expected
to take approximately 1 to 3 weeks.
Existing roads will be used to access the drill site. These roads will be
rehabilitated as necessary by grading. These roads are currently in use by
USFS, BLM, WECC, and the general public.
It is not anticipated that any additional culverts or water bars will need
to be constructed.
WECC will control erosion on and around the drill site as appropriate.
This drill hole will be approximately 1,250 feet in depth. The hole will
be drilled using conventional drilling equipment utilizing one or more of
the following methods:
o Air Rotary/Core
o Air/Foam/Rotary/Core
o Mud/Rotary/Core
