Ms. Kathleen Welt
February 6, 1992
Page 2
The shear strength for the clay represents a recompacted clay colluvium. A
sensitivity analysis was performed to see what value would yield a factor of safety of
1.3 which is the minimum allowed by the CMLRD. Typically a recompacted clayey
colluvium would yield a higher shear strength value than in its natural state (30
degrees friction angle, 300 psf cohesion). The strength value shown in the stack tube
analysis (24 degrees friction angle, 350 psf cohesion) is conservative for a recompacted
clay compacted to 95 percent of Standard Proctor.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please give me a call
(801-573-0502).
Sincerely yours,
Charles C. Rehn, P.E.
