Lanc
Dwrsron Dueuer
The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34,
Article 33, Section 116, Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on December 16,
1998, an application to revise coal mining operations at the Bowie No. 2 Mine was considered
complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by Bowie Resources Limited.
All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this
date of filing.
This Technical Revision would allow for the construction of a coal conveyor, coal storage and
reclaim area and a truck loadout at the Bowie No. 2 Mine. The coal conveyor would bring
coal down from the portal bench to [he coal storage area, a distance of about 3300 feet. The
coal storage area would allow the stockpiling of a maximum of 350,000 tons of coal in an area
North and adjacent to Old Highway 133. The coal reclaim and truck loadout system would
allow the transfer of coal from the coal storage area to the truck loadout by conveyor. The
truck loadout would be a 400 ton capacity metal structure approximately 66 feet high, and
would be located north and adjacent to Old Highway 133. The present sedimentation pond B,
the mine's western most pond, would be relocated south and adjacent to Old Highway 133
enlarging the permit area by 6 acres on land owned by Bowie Resources. The designed water
holding capacity of the relocated pond B will be 4.10 acre-feet. The present pond B holds
2.49 acre-feet of water. The land that is involved with this construction is owned by Bowie
Resources.
Because the proposed coal stockpile and truck loadout would be within 100 feet of Old
Highway 133, this Division is required to publish a public notice which would offer the
opportunity for any member of [he public to request a public hearing, in the area where the
STATE OF COLORADO
