We have since reviewed a copy of the application
and your Rational for approval. We respectfully request an explanation as to why the Upper Black
Squirrel Creek Ground Water Management District was not notified of the applicants intent to
expand the Sokol gravel pit, File No. M-1980-193.
The Board of Directors ofthe UBSCGWMD would liked to have been party to this procedure. The
Sokol pit is in the UBSCGWMD, and has an alluvium well with the permit No. 115606, which is a
Domestic/Livestock permit, with an annual appropriation not to exceed 1 acre-foot per year. Upon
reading the Rational, there are some concerns that the Board would have liked to been able to
address. According to the Rational the applicant states that they will continue to utilize the existing
well that they have been using to wash the sand or apply for a new well permit. If they are indeed
utilizing the above mentioned well, they are in direct violation of said well permit.
There were numerous water engineering facts stated in the Rational, and the Upper Black Squirrel
Board should have been given the opportunity to review those facts, and comment if necessary. This
is a closed basin and this particular area is very important to the alluvial flows downstream in our
basin.
