,41s. Sandra L. Bro ~•n
© Colorado Di~uision of A9inerals & Geo/ogy
December 23, 1998
Page 4
• Shop/Utility Building Slab - 3,770 fr (to be retained for planned postmining land
use, see response to comment 8)
• Crusher/Breaker Building Slab (Surface portion removed to depth of 3-feet) -
950 h'
• Baghouse Slab - 188 fr
• Switch House Slab - 100 h'
Eliminating the Shop/Utility Building Slab and assuming an average slab thickness of 6-
inches and a material swell factor of 50 percent, the total volume of concrete demolition
debris to be disposed of in the Tipple Area would be approximately 40 cubic yards. The
sub-grade portion of the crusher building, which is approximately 6 feet deep, provides
roughly 12,000 cubic feet (450 cubic yards) of volume capacity, assuming a 4-foot placement
thickness and using the mapped building footprint from Map 29, Kerr Tipple Area Exis[ing
Structures. Using the stated volumes, the placement thickness of concrete demolition debris
would be less than 1 foot.
2J On revised page 63a in the TR application, it says that a minimum of four feet of suitable
cover material will be placed over the crasher bzilding. Where will the material come from
and will it he suitable as a plant growth medium?
Response: Aher reviewing the applicable regulatory requirements as outlined under Rule
4.11.4 and recognizing the limited area, topographic relief, and material availability in the
tipple area, Kerr has modified the proposed reclamation plans (tipple area only) to reflect
placement of a minimum of ?feet of cover material over the crusher building disposal area.
This material will come from the existing tipple truck ramp (approximately 2,000 ydss of
clean fill material) and overall site grading, with supplemental borrow, if required, from the
higher portion of the tipple area adjacent to the toe of the hillslope on the northeast side.
Regrading activities will focus on elimination of any depressions that could retain water,
reestablishment of effective drainage off the area, and blending of disturbance areas with the
surrounding terrain. Suitability of surficial and cover materials in the tipple area is addressed
in the permit in Section 780.18(h) (pgs 780-64 through 780-65ee) and will be verified by the
reclamation suitability testing plan outlined on pages 780-70aaa through 780-70aaaaR.
3J There is a concrete warehouse/o~ce structure near the northwest part of the tipple facility
area. What are the plans for this strtzctzzre?
Response: A[ this time, Kerr is proposing to retain the shop/u[ility building as a permanent
structure in conjunction with the proposed postmining land use (refer to TR-19, Kerr Mid-
Term Review Responses and accompanying permit revisions).
r~ ~xvvm ia~x~ro.~~ e~
i ~i: vrs roc
