Long
D iviiion Director
Mountain Coal Company has submitted an application for a technical
revision to construct a material storage bench to the southeast of
their Office/Bathhouse building. This area has not been previously
disturbed. I would request your assistance in reviewing this
application. Specifically, if you could evaluate the stability
analyses provided for this storage bench and the general design of
the bench. I believe a portion of this bench, if not all, is
located within the landslide boundary, previously delineated for
the West Elk Mine. Exhibit 14 in the permit discusses the
landslide study done for the mine in 1980.
If you could return your comments to me by February 18, 1994, I
would be appreciative. Thank you for your assistance. Please let
me know if you need anything further.
I have included: *MCC cover letter regarding revision
*General specifications regarding storage
bench
*Logs of soil samples
*Stability Analyses
*SB-101 (Plan View Drawing)
*SB-102 (Cross-Sections of bench)
cc: David Berry
CEJ/007TR67BKS
