Mike Boulay <br />Division of Minerals and Geology <br />1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 <br />Denver, CO 80203-2273 <br />(303) 8663567 <br />RECEii/ED <br />AUG ~ S 2003 <br />Re: Seneca II Mine (Permit No. C-80-005) -Technical Revision 350i~'S~on of Minerals and Geology <br />Response to Adequacy Review Comments <br />Dear Mr. Boulay: <br />Enclosed are three (3) copies of additional information for TR-35 addressing the safety <br />demonstration for the proposed permanent stockponds and the acceptance of the DMG's current <br />bond calculation. <br />Comment IctAs indicated in SCC's respanre letter, stock ponds to be retained aspermanent structures include.• T- <br />4, T-8, T-16, T-17, T-Z0, T-26, T-28, T-29, T-30, T-31, T-32, and T-33. SCC har submitted a Stock <br />Pond Hazard Evaluation, which includes all of these stock ponds. Prior to approving the requested waiver from <br />the reguirementr of 4.05.917) (quarterly inrpections), the Division will conduct a field inspection to verify the <br />adequacy of the safety demonstration. <br />Response: As a final part of the safety demonstration and in compliance with Rule 4.05.9(8)(6), <br />SCC is submitting the results of an embankment stability analysis demonsttating that the safety <br />factor, for the assumed worst case condition, will exceed 1.5. In accordance with Rule 4,05.9(8)(6) it <br />must be demonstrated that the strucruxe will have a minimum safety factor of 1.3. <br />Additional Response: Based on DMG's review of TR-35, a bond estimate calculation has been <br />completed. DMG's new bond estimate has been established at $8,034,357.
