Environmentnl Consulfnnts, lnc.
Mazch 6, 2000
uinu 111111111111
RECEIVED
Mr. Tom Kaldenbach MAR 13 2000
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Mineral and Geology Division of Minerals & Geology
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Re: Kaiser Ventures, Inc., Permit No. C-S1-023 1997 Annual Hydrologic Monitoring
Report, Comment Responses (TR-31).
Dear Mr. Kaldenbach:
The above-referenced report has been revised to reflect the comments made by the Division in
the correspondence of November 22, 1999. A Technical Revision Form and draft Public Notice
is also attached for your review and approval. As you review the revised PHC you will note the
following salient points (in the order of the DMG correspondence of November 22):
2. Projection of the length of time of elevated TDS discharge has been included within the
revision and is based upon the methodology of Williams and Clark (page 5).
3. The TDS maximum concentration estimation is also based upon the methodology
Williams and Clark and is included on Page 4.
4. The porosity as utilized originally has been updated to the value of 15%.
5. A calculation of the resaturation of the pit is included on Page 4.
6.. The reference Piteau and Associates, 1982 is found within the Chimney Rock Coal
Permit Application Volume N Section 32, dated February 6, 1981.
7. The hydraulic conductivity calculated was the result of a transpositional error from the
Piteau reference into the calculation that was carried throughout the document. This
value has been revised.
Greystone appreciates the cooperation of the Division with this project. Should you have any
questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact me at (303)-850-0930.
Sincerely,
~~~~ /
Jeny Koblitz
Principal
5231 South Quebec Sircet • Greenwood Village, Colorado 801 I I
Phone (303) 850-0930 • Fax (303) 721-9298
Web Site: www.grcystone-consultanU.com • E-mail: greystone@greystone-consultants.com
