Holcim said they will water the roads several times a day to keep down the dust, the
drought in 2002 -present has limited several well productions here. Watering roads
seems like such a waste of a limited resource and necessity.. Why can't they pave the
mine road?
Fremont County Road 6 is the main road the heavy trucks will be traveling on to get to
Hwy 50, the road is patched, and not in good condition now, the trucks will be tearing up
what little road is left. We don't have funding now to keep our roads in repair. The
intersection of County Road 6, and County Road 45 is where our Medical Clinic,
Community Building, Playground, and Fire Station are located, this is at the bottom of a
hill, if the truck driver's don't do the 30 mile speed limit there will be accidents. The
HWY 50 and County Road 6 intersection will also be a problem, the speed limit is 50
mph. on the highway, turning trucks onto, and off of the highway will cause accidents,
there have been several accidents already in this area.
According to documents the mine has had 3 extensions to fmish the reclamation and have
still not finished. Whv would you allow this mine to become active aeain after 17
years?, they haven't 5xed what they destroyed from before.
We understand the need for the Gypsum, but can you understand our needs?
Holcim had intentions a year ago or more to start up this mine, they should have given us
notice then. We could have sold our house and got our money back and moved
somewhere else.
I had a phone conversation with Mike Toelle of Holcim prior to a meeting, he said that
the operation hours would only be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m Monday -Friday.
At a meeting Holcim said the hours will be 7 a.m - 7 p.m ,they didn't guarantee any jobs,
or show how Coaldale will gain anything by them mining here. They also said that they
can contain the dust to their property, and that only 10% of the existing reclamation will
be disturbed. In the plan they submitted they state 15%. So Holcim has already told two
lies, and how can they contain the dust to their property? How many more lies will they
tell just to get their foot in the door?
They get the cash, and we get the trash.
For many of us that live here, several of the issues I mentioned also apply to them.
Times are hard, some people moved here because of health issues, several invested their
life savings into their homes because it is a peaceful, beautiful place to live.
We can't just pack up and move in one day.
If this mine is allowed to reopen please put restrictions on the operating hours, and hold
them accountable for any problems that Holcim may cause.
Please don't allow this minine.
ATTACHED IS A PETITION OF OBJECTION SIGNED BY LOCAL RESIDENTS .
~y2 S~~cnATu~sJ
