MCC believes an explenntion fc: the apparent discrepancies between Mapa 56, 57, and the
Envirocan map is warranted. Maps ~6 and 57 were drafted early in the life of the mine and
reflected information based on actual std proposed siting of facilities and sductures at that time.
As mine facilities and structures were s•,:baequently constructed, these maps illustrated information
which became older and subject to que:.tion. To more accurately reflect the actual on-tho-ground
state of the operation, MCC, through linvirocon, prepared the Envirocon map illustrating areas
slated for topsoil replacement and the •.~psoil stockpile. The Envirocon map was prepared from
1993 aerial photogrammetry, and grour_d truthed, representing the moat accurate portrayal of the
mina sites.
Apparrnt discrepancies between Maps 16, 57, and the Envirocon map can be explained based on
the history of the maps and with an unaarstanding of the preparation of both sets of maps. Many
of the discrepancies mentioned appear .o result from overlaying Isiapa 56, 57 and rho Envirown
map. Differences in area locations W e explained by rectifying the maps based on known
stationary structures in the apedfic are., of the apparent discrepancy. Since all maps (as are aortal
photographs) are most accurate yeast distorted) in their center, areas toward the edges of the
"6y~
~9~ '~
