• 4) Any particular problems or positive points which came up [hat week
or ways to improve operations as well as geologic/mineralization
observations. (This should be brief).
5) Hole summaries:
a) workings -footage.
b) hole problems eg. plugged bit at 205', pulled rods.
c) hourly charges.
d) any notable geology logged.
PPMC DRILL HOLE LOGGING STANDARDS
ROTARY CHIP LOGGING
There are numerous observations that must be made while logging rotary drill chips.
The observations range from recognition of rock type to quantitative estimations of degree
of alteration. Chip boards and cure samples are available for reference of all major
lithologies and alteration types. Perhaps the most important alteration characteristics to
note are Pyrite content and Potassic Feldspar (K-Spar) alteration intensity as they affect the
• heap leach recovery rates most. Following is a list of observations that must be made and
recommendations on es[imating some of the less obvious alteration characteristics.
1. LOGGING PROCEDURES
A. Lay out several chip trays to get a basic feel for rock tvpe and alteration.
B. Log one tray at a time and one characteristic at a time.
Log the rock type for the entire chip tray.
Log another characteristic for the entire tray.
Continue this method until all characteristics are logged.
C. Intensities and percentages are logged on a 0 to 5 scale.
0 is non-existent (ie. not oxidized, no pyrite etc.)
~ is the strongest (ie. completely oxidized, greater than 3% pyrite, etc.)
IL LITHOLOGY
A. Recognition of rock type is important as it relates directly to the geologic
interpretation and the determination of ore type which is important in
determining expected heap leach recoveries.
B. Strong oxidation or potassic alteration can make identification difficult. When
this occurs it is best to return to an area where identification is more straight
• forward and work back in[o the altered zone. Tltis is most important when
there is a rock type change in the altered zone because the alteration may
