July 9, 1998
Mr. Tom Schreiner
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Minerals and Geology
Department of Natural Resouro~
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 6Q203
SUBJECT: RF~t QUARRY (M-77-304) TECHNICAL REVISION -CLARIFICATION ON
RECLAMATION
Dear Tom:
In reviewing our records and working with you on updating our financial warrarrty for this quarry, we
would like to make some clarifications to our permit by way of a tecfxticel revision.
First, because we have invested time and money into more detailed aerial ptiotogrepha, maps and
equipment while reviewing your proposal far adjusting our financial warreMy, we have more accurate
calwlations on the actual atfeded saes in this quarry. The actual affected ecrcs as of ttie January,
1996 aerial photographs for Rex puarry is 102.2 aces total, @4.6 aces of which do not include the
pre-1974 acres. This is significantly less then the 112.4 aces as previously reported in the
September, 1997 annual report. We will tie adjusting this number in the September, 1998 annual
roport to represent more accuratoly the currently distufied acres in Section 1. We are currently
bonded for a maximum disturbance of 111.8 acros.
Second, attaches please find the darlflcatlon to ow Exhibit E Reclamation Flan submitted in
March of 7986. We have Incorporated your suggestwns as well as Carl Mount's and Bruce
Humphries' about the desired diversfication in the final contours and landscape to assure the best
results iw post mining use of wildlife habitat. By specifying more highwalla, talus slopes, and
variations in slopes grades and directions to more closely mimic Ure aurramdings, we hope to clarify
the less speCRC reClBmalion plan which is currently accepted by the State. By identifying various
ranges for percentages of aces eortWarad to the total area of highwells fell, talus slopes proposed,
and slope variations, we have more speafically addressed how the post cartours for 111e 1.3r1d would
appear whether the reclamation was completed today or at the Ida of the mine. None of the slopes
proposed ere steeper than 2' 7 other than the various highwatls and digs, as is wrreMly accepted try ~
the State and all of the slopes proposed in the post contour map are both geotechnlcally and
erosionely stable. We welcane your input on this reclamation clamscation.
Z0'd STSS Lob 0L6 N3I7 WHS Wd SS: £0 86-60-7nf
