~wrBiT °o'•
Mining Plan
6.4.4 The Mining Plan for the Ula Pit is as follows (Please also see map):
This permit is for the expansion of the existing permitted Ula gravel Pit M-1991-083.
(a) The initial preparation of the surface before extraction of the sand and gravel will
consist of stripping the vegetation and topsoil and placing it in stockpiles for use later
during reclamation. Front-end loaders, scrapers, and motor graders may be
employed for this pfiase.
The next phase after removal of the vegetation and topsoil is the extraction of the
resource (sand and gravel), which will be accomplished with front-end loaders,
dozers, scrapers, backhoe excavators, draglines, or any surface mining type of
equipment that is economically feasible for this site.
This is an open pit surface mina, and mining and construction equipment design for
this task will be used for earthmoving and transporting both on site and trucking off
site.
(b) All earthmoving will be done with machinery designed for the job, eg. Dozer, front-
end loaders, scrapers, excavators, etc.
(c) No water diversions or impoundments are anticipated for this operation.
(d) The size of maximum disturbance will be approximately 15 acres at any one time,
and will consist of a combination of mining, processing, stockpiling, hot mix asphalt
plant and/or ready mix concrete plans, and reclamation. Total area of disturbance will
be approximately 36.9 acres of the permitted 40 acres.
(e) Mining w-I! be done on a continuing program every year as the demand warrants.
Therefore, an approximate timetable is that as project in the area need materials,
mining will occur.
(i) The various stages or phases of the operation will be dictated by market
demand. RcGamation will be completed within 5 years after mining is completed
(fi) It is estimated that the size of the excavated area will be between 5 and 10
acres at any given time, and that approximately 5 acres will he devoted to product
stockpile, topsoil stockpile, and all the related processing equipment, which may
inGude portable crushing and screening plant, hot mix plant, and concrete plants.
(iii) Sequencing the events of the mining operation are as the market demands,
