After a concentrated effort of seeding the recommended seed rate
in 1996 and again in 1998, along with bare root shrub planting in 1998, we have had no
success.
This spring'we aze, going [o try again. We have sent the soil to be sampled and are going
to fertilize with 11-56-0 as recommended at the rate of 80.85# per acre.. We are also
adding Zinc sulfate and Magnesium sulfate at the rate of 10# per acre (each) to lower the
ph and make the iron more available to the plants.
We aze currently pocking the slopes on a 6'x 6' diamond with an excavator, prior to
fertilizing and seeding with different grasses and shrubs that will hopefully be more
successful.
The new revisions to grasses and shrubs are as follows:
Russian wild rye grass 7# per acre
Crested wheat grass 7# per acre
Four wing saltbush 2# per acre
Indian rice grass 2# per acre
Rubber rabbit brush 1# per acre
We also plan to plant Siberian Pea Shrubs (Cazagana) on 15'spacings along the top of the
slopes also at similaz spacing on the bottom of the slopes in lieu of the honey locust,
mainly because of availability, and upon recommendation that they should be more
adaptable to our conditions.
2134 J-50 Road
Austin, CO 81410
PHONE 970-835-3128 FAX 970 835-8567
