M-1977-424 for the Logan Wash mine site. The application cannot be approved until the following
issues are adequately addressed. Please submit a response to the following issues as soon as possible, but no
later than 12:00 Noon on March 29, 2004 so the decision due date set for 4:00 p.m. March 29, 2004 can be met.
If you cannot respond by 12:00 Noon on March 29, 2004 please submit a written request for extension of the
decision date. If your response, or an extension request, are not received by 12:00 Noon on March 29, 2004 this
application may be denied.
ADEQUACY ISSUES
1. Please specify what the final disposition of the road berms will be. The current reclamation plan
indicates these berms will be removed and used as topsoil material for site reclamation.
2. TR-4 indicates that loose metal banding, used to hold the chain link rock fall protection, was
removed and disposed of. Please verify that all banding was removed.
3. TR-4 did not include the revised proposed seed mix referred to as Table 1. Please submit this table.
Also, please submit revised proposed shrub tubling transplant details (planting densities, species
and general locations).
4. Please verify that backing up water in the research mine, to the levels proposed, will not result in
transmission of water to the L1 portal. The maps iri DMG files are not adequate to make this
determination. If transmission of water to these lower workings is possible, please demonstrate that
the French drain in these workings will be adequate to handle any additional flows, or demonstrate
that the water will not adversely affect stability of that plug.
5. Please submit any documentation available demonstrating the work completed inside the research
portal prior to sealing (shotcrete application, coffer dam foundation prep, collars on the discharge
pipe to prevent piping, etc.).
6. A geotechnical evaluation of the portal closures, specifically the research mine, is forthcoming from
our Denver office later this week.
Office of - Office of Colorado
